How is foreign currency exchange calculated when I use my TD Credit Card abroad?

When you make a Transaction in a foreign currency, we will convert it to Canadian currency at an exchange rate determined by the payment network in effect at the time we post the transaction to your Account. We then apply a fee of 2.5% which you can find in your Disclosure Statement.

We automatically convert foreign currency to Canadian Dollars before recording Purchases or Cash Advances in your Account that use the following currencies:

  • Australian Dollars
  • Euros
  • Great British Pounds
  • Mexican Pesos
  • U.S. Dollars

For Purchases or Cash Advances in any currency other than what we state above, we will first convert the currency to U.S. Dollars and then to Canadian Dollars before recording them in your Account.

For complete details, see your TD Canada Trust Credit Cardholder Agreement.

For TD U.S. Dollar Credit Cards

Some Cardholders may use a TD U.S. Dollar Visa Credit Card to make Purchases or obtain Cash Advances in a currency other than U.S. Dollars. When you do so, we will convert the foreign currency (including Canadian dollars) to U.S. Dollars before recording it in the Account.

When you make a Transaction in a foreign currency, we will convert it to U.S. Dollar currency at an exchange rate determined by the payment network in effect at the time we post the transaction to your Account. We then apply a fee of 2.5% which you can find in your Disclosure Statement.

For complete details, see your TD Canada Trust U.S. Dollar Credit Cardholder Agreement (PDF).
