How do I withdraw from my TD Direct Investing TFSA?

You can withdraw from your TD Direct Investing Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) in cash or securities in-kind.

In Cash Withdrawal:
You can withdraw cash in Canadian Dollars (CAD) or US Dollars (USD).

For CAD cash, you can withdraw in any of the following ways:

  • Using the Transfer function on WebBroker or TD app to deposit to another TD account
  • Contact Us

For USD cash:
This will require a non-registered account (e.g. cash, margin) to process your request, please Contact Us to submit your request.

Note: If you wish to deposit your withdrawal to an account at another financial institution, please Contact Us and a soft copy of the void cheque will be required to complete your request.

Securities In-kind Withdrawal:
You can withdraw securities in-kind from a TFSA to a non-registered account (e.g. Cash, Margin).

In-kind withdrawals cannot be submitted online through WebBroker. To submit your in-kind withdrawal request, please Contact Us.

Please note: Any amount withdrawn from your TFSA is added back to your TFSA contribution room in the next calendar year. Re-contribution to a TFSA of any withdrawn amount in the same calendar year on a tax-free basis should only be done if unused TFSA contribution room is available. There is no tax applied to TFSA withdrawals.
