How do I open a TD Direct Investing Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) account?
To open a Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) account, you can open the account online or by visiting a TD Canada Trust branch.
To qualify for an RDSP, the beneficiary must meet the following criteria:
- must be a Canadian resident;
- must have been assessed as having a severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions and be eligible for the Disability Tax Credit(DTC);
- must be no more than 59 years of age by December 31 of the calendar year the RDSP is opened (unless the RDSP is opened as a result of a transfer from the beneficiary’s prior RDSP); and
- must have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).
About grants and bonds paid on RDSP contributions:
- The grant may be paid on contributions made into an RDSP on or before December 31 of the calendar year in which the beneficiary turns 49 years of age.
- The Bond may be paid into the RDSP on or before December 31 of the calendar year in which the beneficiary turns 49 years of age.
- Contributions into the plan can be made until the end of the year in which the beneficiary turns age 59 years of age, but no grant or bond will be received.
