How do you calculate Gain/ Loss under the Performance tab in WebBroker?
Gain/loss on WebBroker under the Performance tab is calculated using the Adjusted Cost Base (ACB) using the net amount (including commissions) of buys and sells.
By definition, a gain or loss results from the sale of an asset. A gain results from selling an asset at a price higher than the ACB and a loss results from selling an asset as a price lower than the ACB.
For complex gain/loss calculations please consult with your tax professional. There are a number of considerations when calculating gain/loss, including superficial losses (e.g. shares sold at a loss that are re-purchased within 30 calendar days) that are not accounted for in the calculations on WebBroker.
