I am moving out of Canada. What happens to my account?

If you are moving permanently to a foreign country, your existing account will be rolled over and a new account number will be provided.

If you're moving to the U.S., for RESP, TFSA, RDSP and non-registered accounts all future purchases are prohibited. You may wish to contact TD Ameritrade at 1-800-454-9272.   

If you're moving to a non-US country, you will be allowed to maintain RESP, RDSP and non-registered accounts. Margin accounts will be downgraded to Cash.

For TFSA, you will be allowed to maintain your existing TFSA. However, you cannot contribute to your TFSA while you are a non-resident of Canada.

For RESP and RDSP, the government will not provide grants and bonds for any year in which the Subscriber or Holder and Beneficiary are not residing in Canada for 6 months or more.

For RSP, RIF, LIRA, LIF, you will be allowed to maintain your account under a new account number.
