Can I add or change the beneficiary on my RESP?

Generally, when a beneficiary is replaced by another, contributions made for the original beneficiary will be attributed to the new beneficiary, unless the replacement is a sibling. This could create an over-contribution situation for the new beneficiary if the $50,000 lifetime limit has been reached. For additional details on RESPs refer to the Canada Revenue Agency.

To add a new/additional beneficiary to an existing RESP account, the following forms are required to be filled out:

Schedule A

CESG form

To submit the required forms, please visit your nearest TD Canada Trust branch or TD Direct Investing location.

A copy of the child's birth certificate and SIN card must be attached to the 'Schedule A' and grant form. (Recommended to ensure accuracy with Government Reporting for RESP Education Savings Grant information).
