How do I open a TD Direct Investing Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) account?

To open an RDSP account, visit a TD Canada Trust branch. We will help you complete all the application forms for the Canada Disability Savings Grant and the Canada Disability Savings Bond at the same time as we open your account.

Remember: to qualify for an RDSP, the beneficiary must meet the following criteria:

  • must be a Canadian resident;
  • must have been assessed as having a severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions and be eligible for the Disability Tax Credit(DTC);
  • must be no more than 59 years of age by December 31 of the calendar year the RDSP is opened (unless the RDSP is opened as a result of a transfer from the beneficiary’s prior RDSP); and
  • must have a valid SIN.
  • The grant may be paid on contributions made into an RDSP on or before December 31 of the calendar year in which the beneficiary turns 49 years of age.
  • The Bond may be paid into the RDSP on or before December 31 of the calendar year in which the beneficiary turns 49 years of age.
  • Contributions into the plan can be made until the end of the year in which the beneficiary turns age 59. But no Grant or Bank will be received.
